Job description
You will be AFP’s English correspondent based in Dakar, covering much of West Africa, where Agence France-Presse has a major news agency.
In the nine countries in your region (Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, and Cape Verde), you’ll be faced with a variety of challenges ranging from jihadist insurgency and instability in the Sahel to politics and natural disasters. , various news are constantly provided.

Under the direction of the office manager and his/her representatives, we produce strong, vibrant files that are fast, accurate, and characterized by clarity and perspective.
Part of the job involves translating a colleague’s French work, as well as producing English texts about breaking news. You may work with a correspondent or a network of correspondents whose contributions may require extensive editing. We will also create your own company story translated into French.
Four of his countries in the target region are French-speaking, three are English-speaking and two are Portuguese-speaking.
They will work from the Dakar office and may be sent on reporting missions to other parts of the region depending on AFP’s needs.
Must have a good understanding of the visual and multimedia aspects of reporting and coordinate closely with photography and video colleagues. Please closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to agency guidelines regarding social media activity.
Contribute to the fight against misinformation by supporting fact checkers on the network and generally supporting the development of digital research. Ensure your team is trained in the various online verification methods that are essential to all journalism today.

Must be willing to work long hours at a variety of times, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends. Required skills
- You have several years of experience as a journalist and are interested in West Africa.
- You have excellent English writing skills and a good knowledge of French is essential to working in a predominantly French-speaking team.
- You are a team player, have a strong work ethic, and are willing to work long hours.
- You can write a quick text him message even when you are under pressure.
- Must be able to report accurately and quickly.
- They enjoy reporting even in insecure or conflict areas. If you have not already done so, you will be completing a harsh environment training course hosted by AFP. Video and social networking skills and knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese are a plus.
