UN Women works with gender equality institutions and organizations, from grassroots to intergovernmental organizations, to strengthen their standing and capacity as advocates for gender equality in humanitarian response, recovery and beyond.
About the portfolio/ thematic area
The number of people affected by humanitarian situations globally increased from 52 million in 2014 to almost 132 million in 2019 [1]. Most of this population (at least 22 million) lives in West and Central Africa with a range of humanitarian priorities, including climate shocks, armed conflict, terrorism, epidemics and food insecurity due to natural disasters. Functions
Provide technical support to Country Office teams to develop programmes on humanitarian action:
- Manage the development of integrated strategies for providing technical assistance, policy advocacy and program support in the region.
- Manages the development of local humanitarian response program documentation.
- Oversees the contextualization/localization of program documents, national strategies and knowledge products to ensure proper oversight and reporting of humanitarian action programs.
- Provide technical assistance to conscientious objectors at GIHA to ensure coherence between conscientious objectors’ responses to emergencies and protracted crises and UN

- Assist in the development of national Humanitarian Needs Profiles (ENTs) and contributions to Humanitarian Response Plans (HRPs).
Lead the design of humanitarian action programmes in the region and the development of relevant knowledge products:

Manage the resource mobilization strategy for humanitarian action in the region.
- Participate in the implementation, monitoring and regular updating of the resource mobilization strategy for humanitarian action in the region.
- Provide technical support to field personnel in the region to mobilize resources for humanitarian response.
- Research and analyze information about donors.
Manage the advocacy of humanitarian action through inter-agency coordination.

- Coordinate regional GIHA teams and provide technical expertise to gender groups in different countries.

Manage advocacy and communication efforts of humanitarian action

Required Skills and Experience
Education and certification
- Master’s degree or original in mortal rights, gender, transnational relations, transnational development, transnational law or other social wisdom fields is needed.
- A first– position university degree in combination with two fresh times of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A design/ programme operation instrument( similar as PMP ®, PRINCE2 ®, or MSP ®) would be an added advantage.
Experience
- At least 7 times of precipitously responsible experience in designing and managing philanthropic programmes, with a particular focus on gender and protection in extremities and recovery
- Specialized experience ininter-agency collaboration, rather protection cluster collaboration, and/ or ProCap/ GenCap in a philanthropic setting;
- Experience in policy analysis and strategic planning;
- Experience working with, and erecting hookups with governments, benefactors and civil society associations internationally and in the field;
- Experience working with the UN is an asset;
- Experience working in the region is an asset
Language requirements
- Fluency in French and English (both oral and written) is required ;
- Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset;
