In 2017, more than half of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. There are good reasons for this. The fees are too high, the nearest branch is sometimes miles away, and there is no one to take the card. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to hide their savings under their mattresses. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge high interest rates. Parents line up for hours to pay for school fees in cash.
We solve this problem by developing financial services that work, with no account fees, instant availability, and universal acceptance. You can use Wave to send money even where electricity, water, and roads don’t always work. In November 2017, we launched a mobile app for cash deposits, withdrawals, peer-to-peer and business payments in Senegal. In 2019, we also expanded into Cote d’Ivoire. How can you help us reach this goal?
We are looking for experienced Security Engineers who are independent, interested in getting things done, and ready to get started. You will be primarily responsible for application security, working with the product team to work on new systems and improve our security posture. Our customers trust us financially and you will be at the forefront of ensuring that we maintain that trust.
This broad role allows you to work on many types of security projects, from direct application security to assisting infrastructure teams with database security considerations. Experience with common industry certifications such as ISO-27001 and PCI-DSS is an advantage, but is not expected to conduct or oversee audits.

Centralize application-level registration and enforcing permissions
Create a privacy inventory
Security review of publicly accessible APIs
Work with his IT team in our company to resolve non-conformities identified during central bank audits and ISO certification.
Key details
Work remotely from anywhere (between UTC -5 and +4) with reliable internet access. Wave covers his annual trip to one of our business countries in Africa and an $800 annual scholarship to meet with colleagues. Our salaries are competitive and calculated using a transparent formula. This role offers a salary range of $138,400 to $160,000 (or local currency equivalent) depending on experience level and adequate capital base. Performance evaluations are conducted twice a year, and bonuses and promotions are awarded to employees who have achieved excellent results after working for at least six months.

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience with a minimum of 2 years of it spent in a security-related role
Strong Experience with Python. Fluent English. you might be a good fit for us

About Wave Engineering
You will report directly to the Platform Director and rotate with many product and platform teams depending on the projects you are working on. Each team is led by a product manager and mentored by a technical lead on the team. You`ll be responsible for your own security projects as well as supporting the engineering organization on security through advice and design review. We organize things to give you as much ownership as possible, so you`ll typically be in charge of your projects from planning to delivery.
