Job Description

Purpose of position

  • Provides technical leadership, guidance and coordination in advocacy, campaigns and external engagements.
    It takes a leadership role in advocacy and engagement for the West African region, including working with various advocacy groups and campaigns and National Offices (NOs) to shape advocacy and engagement. Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive advocacy framework that contributes to the sustainable well-being of children and the 2030 Commitment strategy. 
  • This function is also responsible for external linkages with regional networks, ECOWAS, regional bodies such as the African Union, other major governments, the United Nations, inter-agency groups and regional development agencies.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and quality assurance support in campaign design and execution, mobilize local and global support and partnerships to address injustice issues, and coordinate campaign goals at local, regional and global levels. and aim to make impact visible.

Key Responsibilities

Advocacy Coordination/Integration Internal

  • Develop and put into effect a local Advocacy plan that addresses social accountability, outside engagement, campaigns and the worldwide SDGs that make contributions to accomplishing objectives withinside the OP2030 rating cards

  • Support regional directors and other senior leaders in the region to engage directly with regional policy makers, the United Nations and civil society organizations in West Africa on critical issues, including the SDG 2030 agenda process.
  • Help develop the capacity of senior war leaders to engage and influence policy makers at the national level
  • Build relationships and strategic alliances with local Regional Economic Communities (RECs), professional agencies and civil society organizations
  • Encourage the creation and participation of regional working groups, coalitions, alliances and networks that will improve the achievement of CWB outcomes;
  • Represent WARO at international high-level events related to global, regional and national CWB and campaign issues
  • Assist national offices and regions in developing, updating and implementing effective external engagement plans that impact effectiveness and bottom line

Capacity enhancement in advocacy for Justice

  • Develop satisfactory advocacy exercise withinside the location via assisting Knowledge control products

  • Support National Offices to generate CVA Data that affects the manufacturing of governments` SDG Voluntary National Reports (VNR)
  • Support international locations and WV partnership in mobilizing human, economic assets from inside and past World Vision to attain advocacy and External Engagement outcomes

Leading Campaigns & Key Advocacy Moments

Provide empowering and influential leadership to ITAW Campaign in the following manner:

  • Providing NO with the tools to effectively launch World Vision’s new Child Feeding and Hunger Campaign, and other campaigns as appropriate
  • Support NO campaign framework design and implementation
  • Supporting NOs to shape and influence new policy agendas on child nutrition and hunger
  • As with all WV campaigns, develop mechanisms to monitor and assess the impact of the campaign on the lives of children and communities on child nutrition and hunger issues.
  • Assist field offices in transitioning ITAW campaigns into regular programs and advocacy. This includes securing an appropriate budget to facilitate this.
  • Working with other regions such as EARO and SARO to work with the African Union on the Child Feeding and Hunger campaign and all other WV campaigns

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or selfeducation, prior experience or onthejob training:

Knowledge, skills ans abilities

  • Masters degree in Social Sciences, Public Administration, Public Policy, Development Studies or related area
  • At least 5 years relevant working experience in the development sector. Governance is preferred.

In addition the following knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through combination of formal schooling, selfeducation, prior experience, or onjob training:

  • Child protection work experience: including designing, implementing and monitoring child protection programs. Human resource training and coaching. 
  • Experience in managing the development and implementation of rights-based approaches. Experience managing empowering partnerships and other relationships. 
  • Experience in research projects and document management
    In-depth knowledge of how to influence WASH, health/nutrition, education and related policies
  • Experience managing national and international campaigns. advocacy and political activism
  • Appointees have extensive experience working in multiple NGO settings and coalitions on policy issues related to poverty alleviation, complex humanitarian emergencies, and governance. 
  • Police officers will be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing, including providing political analysis. The staff can work with and guide consultants in research and policy analysis. Staff have at least five years of hands-on experience in advocating and influencing policy at national and regional levels.Team Work
  • Ability to maintain good relations and work effectively with other members of the Global Advocacy & External Engagement Team, as well as Regional Operations Team to ensure that World Vision presents a professional and efficient point of contact to regional institutions.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of the activities of other members of the team to enable mutual support during times of high pressure activity.
  • Ability to participate in and provide leadership to a virtual crossfunctional Regional Team to ensure an integrated ministry approach.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake any other activities designated by the Regional Leader that might be necessary for the efficient and effective performance by the team of its duties.

Working Environment / Conditions

  • Working Environment: Based in offices with frequent field trips, we are able to work with a variety of individuals and groups living in rural and remote areas of diverse cultures and beliefs.
  • Travel: 30% of domestic/international travel is required.
