UN Women recrute un Feminist Economist/Gender and Economics Policy Specialist

UN Women is seeking to recruit a feminist economist to lead its regional programme on gender and economics, in coordination with national feminist economists in UN Women country offices.

Duties and Responsibilities

A feminist economist, she will report to the WEE Regional Policy Advisor and work closely with UN Women program and steering teams in regional and country offices, implementing partners, and UN Women Women’s Economic Empowerment in Western and Central Africa staff. doing. In particular, economists are expected to perform the following tasks:

Developing feminist economist programs for country offices

  • Conduct new areas of research to support GEWE and promote gender-sensitive economic reforms in West and Central Africa
  • To support GEWE in West and Central Africa, in developing strategies to scale up reforms in key areas such as unpaid care, women’s participation in the green economy, women’s entrepreneurship and other relevant areas of economic policy. , providing technical assistance to regional WEE advisors.
  • Contribute to the coordination and implementation of key gender and economic policy initiatives in West and Central Africa
  • Coordinating the CoP/Network of Gender Economists in UN Women Country Offices in West and Central Africa
  • Coordinating the production of knowledge and communication products in the field of gender and economics at the regional level

Provide expertise and technical assistance to partners

  • Support the development and implementation of policy dialogue initiatives and provide technical advice to governments, civil society and regional organizations on the development, implementation and monitoring of gender-responsive economic reforms.
  • Support and advise the National Counselor in developing national strategies for integrating gender into key economic policies and reforms.

Provide capacity building support to Country Office and partners

  • Provide substantial technical and policy support to country offices and teams in developing and strengthening programs that support the implementation of global norms and standards.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors capacity-building initiatives by identifying capacity-building needs and supporting country offices through technical assistance, mentoring, training, and capacity-building initiatives as appropriate.
  • Develop and deliver training modules, tools, and other capacity-building activities and strategies on gender and economics targeted at key regional and national stakeholders (ministries of economy, finance, ministries of gender, parliamentarians, civil society).
  • Organize and host an annual regional capacity-building event for UN Women staff, government officials, and civil society partners on key economic reforms to advance the GEWE agenda in the region. »

Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with stakeholders, regional/ international actors and development partners

  • Help build and sustain alliances and strategic partnerships to advance gender-equal economic policies at the local level.
  • Implement regional advocacy strategies to influence the agenda of key regional institutions (Economic Commission, AfDB, AU) and promote gender-equal economic policies.

Oversee knowledge building and sharing for Gender responsive economic

  • Work with country offices to identify and disseminate lessons learned and best practices.
  • Ensure technical skills and knowledge are shared across national and international offices.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and certification

  • Master’s degree or equivalent degree in economics, development economics, feminist economics, or other related field of economics or public policy.
  • A combination of the first university degree and two additional years of qualification experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of international experience and track record in international development promoting policy reforms in gender and economic areas, including macroeconomic policies and women’s economic empowerment policies.
  • Demonstrated experience using quantitative and qualitative gender analysis in business is required.
  • Experience in programmatic, policy analysis, and strategic planning is required.
  • Previous professional experience in developing and emerging countries is required.
  • Professional experience in West and Central Africa preferred.
  • Experience working in the United Nations system is preferred. »

Language Requirements

Fluency in and French are required.
