Responsibilities 

  • Within delegated authority, the Security Information Analyst can be chargeable for the subsequent duties:

  • Contributes in instruction of protection plans for a delegated country, or geographic location through accomplishing nearby and country-particular risk and threat tests for the UN encompassing:
  • Develops protection records necessities for the UN in a specific place.
  • Develops protection threat tests, helping DSS Security Advisers withinside the field.
  • Develops strategic tests on tendencies of protection threats withinside the place for dissemination to applicable clients.
  • Prepares early caution reviews and signs on protection threats, as a making plans device for DSS Senior Management.
  • Establish and maintain dialogue with local authorities and international organizations such as the Red Cross/Red Crescent to coordinate responses in the event of natural disasters.
  • Establish lines of communication focused on the Interagency Security Management Network (IASMN) to coordinate security threat assessment requirements.
  • Cooperate with United Nations system organizations and Member States in developing intelligence on security threats. Work with government security interlocutors who host field missions to provide information on threat actors and the United Nations working environment.
  • Communicate with relevant customers and disseminate processed information regarding strategic assessments of security threat trends in relevant regions.
  • Maintain awareness of the general security situation in the target area, develop technical knowledge and awareness of the security threat environment, and identify potential threats by profiling threat actors that affect the security environment in which the United Nations operates. Identify threats and analyze trends in security incidents that impact the security environment in which the United Nations operates.
  • Liaise with United Nations personnel and advise appropriately on the likely impact of threats to relevant United Nations personnel.
  • Ensure the availability of the Strategic Security Threat Information System by conducting liaison visits (SSTILVs) and conducting periodic reviews to determine whether the system is functioning properly.
  • We also ensure that information management systems are functional and comply with established security analysis processes and standards of practice.
  • Create analytical reports on security incidents both at headquarters and in the field.
  • Performs other analytical and research duties and assignments as required.

Job requirements

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in politics, military, international relations, or related field.
  • A combination of the first university degree and two additional years of qualification experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • The first university degree can be replaced by a diploma from a police or military educational institution, university, or academy, which he obtained over a period of at least three years.
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in applied military, police, or political predictive analysis is required.
  • At least two years of international experience in a multilateral organization in the field of criminology or corporate security is required.
  • Experience analyzing security, crime, political or military trends preferred. Experience in information analysis or intelligence analysis is preferred.
  • Experience writing analytical statistical reports preferred.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. The position requires fluent speaking and writing skills in English and French. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations is preferred.
